Friday, June18, 2010 Spanish Banks Beach

Stellar weather!!!!!!!!!! Fran, Jess, and I decide this is a beach day and that Spanish Banks Beach is the place. Spanish Banks is on the peninsula jutting into the Strait of Georgia that is home to the University of British Columbia. The view back to Van was spectacular on this mostly cloudless day (pic one). Nothing really unusual or noteworthy about the day. We had fish and chips in the sand, sunbathed, practiced a little beach yoga, sunburned, attempted to recreate the Baywatch jog, observed the skimboarders, burnt a bit more, and generally acted like kids, which Fran and Jess are but I should be ashamed to be behaving in such a fashion at my advanced age. Oh yes. Notice the huge logs on the beach aligned parallel to the water. The environmental scientist in me immediately thought they were some sort of beach stabilization technique; however, it turns out that they serve as wind breaks and gathering points for sunbathers/beachgoers. Some random photos from the day are included. Can you find the pic where we cleverly spelled Van with our bodies? Use your imagination. Video is Fran and Jess in Baywatch mode. :-)
